“Creating One Community!”
Hello Neighbors!
Meet Crystal Bailey Candidate for State Representative – Michigan House District 5
Our community is facing real challenges from the mental health crisis and gun violence to rising taxes and underfunded schools. I’m running to be your next State Representative in District 5 because we deserve bold leadership that gets results.
As Vice Chairperson of the Behavioral Health Advisory Council for the State of Michigan, I’ve worked at the state level to improve access to mental and behavioral health resources. I’ve seen the gaps in care, and I’m committed to closing them especially for our children and vulnerable adults.
I will fight for:
• More mental health resources and crisis beds for families in need
• Accountability for gun manufacturers that put profit over public safety
• Literacy and educational equity for every child, from Pre-K to 12th grade
• Funding public education that serves both students and teachers
• Tax relief through the expansion of the Neighborhood Enterprise Zone (NEZ), so more homeowners can afford to stay and invest in their neighborhoods
With over 18 years as a businesswoman and a long history of community service, I’ve led on the Oak Park School Board as Vice President, organized COVID-19 response efforts for students, and currently serve on several local boards and commissions. I’m also proud to be:
• Corresponding Secretary, Northwest Detroit Democratic Club
• Corresponding Secretary, Michigan Democratic Party Black Caucus
Born in Northwest Detroit and raised in Oak Park, I’m a homeowner and mother that know what it takes to serve and I will always be Accessible, Accountable, Fair, Transparent, and Available.
Let’s build a stronger, safer, and more affordable District 5 together!
Join me. Let’s move District 5 forward!
Crystal Bailey ran for State Senate in the Primary Election of 2018 and was elected in the General Election of the same year to the Oak Park Board of Education as a write-in candidate. She served as Vice President of the Oak Park School Board during COVID-19.
Now, she's running to be your State Representative in the new State House District 5!
Priorities:
•Mental Health:
The State of Michigan is in a Mental Health Crisis and I will fight to reopen mental health facilities. I will fight to implement a database or use current technology to allow mentally ill residents to register their home with Public Safety, which will alert first responders to arrive with a trained de-escalating approach!
•Gun Violence:
I will continue to advocate for ending gun violence by creating laws that hold manufactures accountable who are putting profit over public safety. I will educate our House District 5 on the new Safe Storage and Red Flag Laws!
•Public Education:
I will continue to fight to keep our students safe at school and work to create a structure that will hold Charters Schools accountable. We need to build uniformity around Detroit and Oak Park public school districts as well as between Charter, Traditional, and Private School.
•Tax Relief:
I will fight for the expansion of the Neighborhood Enterprise Zone (NEZ), so more homeowners can afford to stay and invest in their neighborhoods and I will fight in Lansing to write bills such as the Helping Obtain Prosperity for Everyone (HOPE) Zone Act.
I care, I listen, I commit!
Our world as we once knew it, is changing around us. With your vote you can help bring the right Leadership, Transparency, and Mental health programs to keep youth and adults from being incarcerated and or detained and provide them with rehabilitation facilities that addresses their individual needs. Crystal Bailey is committed to being an advocate for the residents of District 5. She is results driven, with a proven record of previous successes.
