CRYSTAL BAILEY

Crystal Bailey is a lifelong resident of northwest Detroit. She attended Henry Ford High School for ninth and tenth grade before moving to Oak Park, where she graduated from Oak Park High School in 2001. A dedicated civil servant and former vice president of the Oak Park Board of Education, Ms. Bailey has volunteered with the Oakland County Juvenile Probation Department, guiding youth on educational jail tours.

Ms. Bailey is the founder of WALK Fashion Show LLC, an international small business she has successfully operated for 19 years. Through WALK and its nonprofit partners, she organizes biannual clothing and food distributions for the Neighborhood Service Organization and advocates for independent business owners and emerging entrepreneurs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she collaborated with the Oak Park School District to distribute internet hotspots, helping ensure students could participate in virtual learning.

Ms. Bailey is running for the newly drawn State House District 5 to address pressing community concerns. She will prioritize why jails are being used to house people who need mental health services rather than treatment, and why schools are often the first to experience funding cuts. She also wants to hear from residents about the specific needs of the new District 5.

Ms. Bailey looks forward to discussing these issues with you in the coming weeks. Her key priorities include gun safety and accountability, mental health crisis response, water affordability, and lowering the cost of auto insurance and property taxes.
